How this result is calculated

Your calculation breakdown will appear here.

Planning estimates, not guaranteed outcomes. Gaps, execution, changing exchange rates, financing and broker rules can change the realised result. A stop loss does not guarantee the loss amount shown.

Why do the broker specifications matter?

A lot is a broker-defined contract. Forex examples use 100,000 base currency units per lot; gold examples use 100 troy ounces, and index and crypto examples use an illustrative contract size of 1. Check your broker’s symbol specification for contract size, tick size, minimum volume and volume step. Presets are examples and may differ from your broker.

How are currency conversions handled?

If the profit currency matches your account, no conversion is needed. For a standard forex pair with the account in the base currency, the calculator converts the quote-currency P/L using the reciprocal of the stop and target exit prices separately. Otherwise, enter one current profit-currency-to-account-currency conversion rate, used for both stop and target estimates. No rates are fetched or assumed. Use your broker’s applicable conversion rate.

What do lot size, position size and risk / reward mean?

Lot size is the number of broker lots. Position size is lot size multiplied by the contract size. Net risk / reward compares potential profit after the entered costs with the projected loss including costs and your stop slippage allowance. A target is optional. In fixed tick value mode, the contract size describes the position’s units; tick values determine its P/L.

What is included in the calculation?

Stop distance, contract or tick value, exchange rates, lot limits, lot increments, entered round-trip commissions, fixed costs and stop slippage. Swap, funding, taxes, broker minimum stop distances, available margin and liquidation levels are not calculated. Enter executable prices to reflect the spread, and include any additional known charges in the costs.

How the calculator works

Build a position around the amount you choose to risk.

  1. Set your account and risk. Select a market and instrument. Enter your account currency, balance or equity, and the percentage or cash amount you want to risk.
  2. Enter your trade levels. Choose Buy or Sell, then enter your entry price and stop loss. Add an optional take profit to calculate potential reward. You can also enter stop and target distances in pips or points.
  3. Check the broker settings. Open “Broker specifications & costs” and match your broker’s contract size, tick size and lot limits. Enter any known costs, stop slippage and required currency conversion rates.
  4. Calculate and review. Click “Calculate position size”. Your lot size is rounded down to the broker’s increment within your entered risk budget. If the minimum lot is too large, the calculator shows zero lots. Potential profit and net risk / reward use your target and entered costs.

Preset prices and contract sizes are examples. No live prices or exchange rates are fetched. Results depend on your inputs and are planning estimates; execution and changing rates can affect the realised outcome.
