A simple XAUUSD example

With 100 troy ounces per lot, 0.10 lots equals 10 ounces. Buying at $2,500 and exiting at $2,530 gives a $30 move per ounce × 10 ounces = $300 gross profit, before fees and financing. This is an example, not a live gold price.

How is gold trading profit or loss calculated?

For a linear gold contract, ounces = lots × ounces per lot. A Buy trade’s gross P/L is (exit price − entry price) × ounces. For a Sell trade, reverse the price difference. Convert that result into account currency, subtract the entered round-trip fees and add the signed financing adjustment to get net P/L. If you add slippage, the execution exit is adjusted against your trade first.

How many ounces are in one lot of gold?

The default example is 100 troy ounces per lot, so 0.10 lots represents 10 ounces and 0.01 lots represents 1 ounce. Your broker may define its gold contract differently. Check the symbol specification and enter the correct “Troy ounces per 1 lot” before calculating.

Why does this show price movement and ticks instead of gold pips?

Gold pip and point conventions differ between brokers. This calculator shows the directional price move per troy ounce and the number of minimum price ticks. Set the tick size to your broker’s smallest price increment, for example 0.01. For a linear XAUUSD trade with 100 ounces per lot, a $1 move is worth $100 on 1 lot or $10 on 0.10 lots, before fees and conversion.

Can I use an account currency other than USD?

Yes. Select or type your account currency. If it differs from the gold contract’s settlement currency, enter your broker’s exchange rate for the trade. For example, when using a USD gold quote and a GBP account, enter how many GBP one USD is worth. Reverse quote entry is available. No live exchange rates are fetched and none are silently assumed.

What costs and financing should I enter?

Use executable entry and exit prices to reflect the spread. Enter total round-trip commission per lot and any fixed trade fees in account currency. Financing is a total signed adjustment in account currency: positive means a credit and negative means a charge. All costs start at zero. Enter each charge once. Slippage is optional adverse movement in ticks; leave it at zero for actual fill prices.

Can I use broker-defined tick payouts or gold futures?

The advanced fixed tick value method uses the directional tick movement × the applicable profit or loss tick value × lots. Set tick values in the selected settlement currency. For futures quoted in whole contracts, set the minimum and increment to 1 and enter the correct ounces per contract. Contract specifications must match your broker or exchange. Inverse or nonlinear contracts, liquidation, available margin and taxes are not modelled.

Why is my trade size rejected?

Your position must fit the broker’s minimum lot size, maximum lot size and lot increment. Ounces are converted to lots using your entered contract size and checked against the same limits. The calculator flags invalid sizes instead of silently rounding your trade.

What does the optional account return mean?

Net P/L ÷ entered account balance / equity × 100. It measures the trade result relative to the account amount you entered. It is not a return on margin or a forecast. Leave the balance blank if you only want the cash profit or loss.
